The 54th Anniversary of the Association of South East Asia Countries (ASEAN) was held on 19th August, 2021 at the Embassy of Indonesia’s Chancery. The event was hosted by the Indonesian Ambassador to Kenya H.E. Dr. Mohamad Hery Saripudin. Formed in 1967, the ASEAN association was conceptualized to promote peace and security, economic growth, social progress and cultural development in Southeast Asia.
Kenya government officials expressed the country’s deep appreciation for the excellent bilateral relations with ASEAN member countries as exemplified by the growing bilateral ties, periodic exchanges of high-level official visits between our two regions and a synergy of interests in multilateral forums. This was aptly demonstrated by the overwhelming support extended to Kenya’s candidature for a Non-Permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council by ASEAN member states.
The event celebrations in Nairobi provided an opportunity to continue strengthening East Africa-ASEAN friendship, mutual trust and enhance implementation of development cooperation between the two regions for the mutual benefit of its countries and people.
