South-South Dialogues held the second county two-day training workshop on “Digital Awareness for Self-Sustainability” at the Catholic Technical Training Institute (CTTI) in Machakos from September 16 to 17, 2022. The trainings aim to empower out-of-school youth in technical and vocational education and training centres countrywide with practical and wide ranging digital and information communication technology skills for self-employment.
Over 200 participants attended the training, which was well represented by both genders in line with the need to include men and women in nation building. The programme is targeted at providing over 5000 high potential but disadvantaged youth in Kenya’s 47 counties with digital soft skills training relevant for digital jobs and helping them to identify relevant job opportunities.
The workshop is being implemented with the kind assistance of a Chinese donor as part of the country’s people-to-people exchanges between the two countries. China has promised to support Africa in raising the level of digitisation in the public and corporate sectors and promote industrialisation by applying new technologies such as cloud computing, artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things and mobile payment.
